Stephan Bösch, Managing Director of Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa in Baden-Baden, Germany reflects on the hotel’s relationship with its natural surroundings, its enduring character and the personal care of Oetker Hotels hospitality.
Bösch brings more than 20 years of senior experience in luxury hospitality, much of it with the Oetker Collection, including his past tenure as General Manager of The Lanesborough in London, the United Kingdom.
Set beside Baden-Baden’s celebrated Lichtentaler Allee, with the Oos River flowing nearby and the Black Forest beyond, Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa is defined by a rare sense of place. It offers the tranquillity of a retreat while remaining closely connected to the culture and life of the city.
For Bösch, nature is integral to the guest experience. The landscape brings a sense of calm and openness, inviting guests to step outside and reconnect with their surroundings without leaving Baden-Baden behind. This balance, he believes, is central to the hotel’s enduring appeal.
Charm, however, cannot simply be designed. Bösch sees it as a natural ease, shaped by a warm welcome, the character of the house and the thoughtful details that make each stay feel personal. The hotel’s history gives it its soul; its people bring that spirit to life.
At Brenners, genuine care is expressed through attentiveness and sincerity. Colleagues take the time to understand what matters to each guest, often responding with quiet consideration rather than grand gestures. It is this personal approach, Bösch believes, that turns excellent service into a lasting memory.
The hotel’s motto, “A Legendary Stay, A World Apart,” speaks to both its distinguished past and its singular sense of place. Brenners has welcomed many notable guests over the years, and their stories remain woven into its history. Yet Bösch is equally committed to ensuring that the hotel feels welcoming and lived-in a home away from home, rather than a monument to its past. Its character and discretion are carefully preserved, alongside a warmth that puts every guest at ease.
This balance between continuity and renewal guided Brenners’ two-year transformation. The goal, Bösch explains, was to prepare the hotel for the future without compromising its sense of place, architecture, history or intimacy. Rather than reinventing Brenners, the project sought to bring its defining qualities into sharper focus: nature, heritage and genuine care.
The reopening also renews attention on Villa Stéphanie, Brenners’ dedicated medical and wellbeing destination. Under the medical direction of Dr. Harry König, guests can access individual consultations and personalised programmes centred on health, prevention and wellbeing.
The transformation has further refined the hotel’s understanding of exclusivity. For Bösch, it is not a question of distance or formality, but of space, privacy, discretion and an experience shaped around the individual. Guests can enjoy a sense of retreat while feeling genuinely welcomed and cared for.
Ultimately, Bösch hopes guests leave Brenners feeling restored, not only by the setting and facilities, but also by the care they have received. A walk beneath the trees, the sound of the river, a meaningful conversation or a thoughtful gesture may become the moments they remember most. Together, they capture the spirit of Brenners: nature, heritage and heartfelt hospitality, united in an experience that is both deeply personal and quietly distinctive.
